  • J Olson (b. 1981, US) is a visual artist who works primarily in video, installation, and performance. Their work explores the politics of everyday life by focusing on familiar subjects and objects. In restaging everyday scenes, J’s work brings into question contemporary modes of representation and proposes the commonplace as the grounds for a reorientation of politics. As an artist-in-residence at the Jan Van Eyck Academie in the Netherlands, Olson researched feminist utopian literature, the tactile and its ethics with Katherine MacBride, Rosanne van Wijk, and Taraneh Fazeli, and created several new bodies of work. Olson has an MFA from The New School (US), a BA in Physics from Harvard University (US), and performed professionally as a dancer in the US and internationally. Their videos and installations have been exhibited in group shows and festivals in the US, Canada, and Australia.
